Do you ship internationally?
No, at this time we only ship in the United States.
Are all your products always in stock?
Due to the availability of the flowering season here in Texas, we have a large honey flow in the spring and a smaller honey flow in the fall. We are working to add more hives to our apiary. We try to keep as many honey products stocked at all times. We are also looking to add items as we discover new and excited products that use honey and/or beeswax in their makeup.
Are your hives chemically treated?
No we do not use chemicals in treating our hives. Our bee hives are top bar hives. We chose this design to best protect the bees from predators. This also keeps the bees healthy without using any chemicals.
How is the product packaged?
We package our products in a home kitchen and is not inspected by the Department of State Health Services or a local health department.
What can I do if my honey crystallizes?
Honey naturally crystallizes over time. Place container in warm water to liquefy.
About our Classes & Policies
Do I have to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay with cash?
Tickets must be purchased in advance, as we have limited capacity and classes often sell out quickly. To maximize your chances of getting the class you prefer, please book well in advance. Tickets can only be purchased with a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express. Cash is not accepted.
Are classes held in bad weather?
Classes are held in light to moderate rain but not in severe weather as the entire class takes place outside. In the event of inclement weather, we will use ponchos to protect both ourselves and the bees from getting wet. In cold and wet conditions class participants huddle close to the hives to keep out rain and cold, allowing them to take a quick look inside the hive without harming it. In the event we needed to cancel for severe weather, students would be allowed to reschedule to another class (subject to availability) or receive a credit for a future class.
Are the beekeeping classes appropriate for children?
Currently we only have classes for people 18 years or older.
What if I am allergic to bee stings?
Please let us know if you or anyone in your group has a bee sting allergy when purchasing your tickets. As long as we know in advance, we can often accommodate the student's needs by having them stand further away from the hive than others. It is your responsibility to ensure you are properly prepared, so we encourage you to bring an Epi-pen prescribed by your doctor as we do not have one available.
Does the class take place indoors or outdoors?
Most of the class is indoors. After in class instruction you will proceed outside to actually get into the Top-Bar Hive.
How should I dress for the class?
For everyone's safety, all students are required to adhere to our dress code recommendations in order to participate. Regardless of the weather, students must wear blue jeans or long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, boots or shoes that cover your ankle as well as a hat or bandana. If you do not have shoes that cover your ankles, you should wear at least two pairs of socks that cover your ankles. Participants that are not dressed appropriately will not be allowed to participate in class for their own safety.
What should I bring with me to class?
We recommend all students bring a couple of important things with them. All students should bring their signed Participant Agreement with them, which will be mailed to you before the class.
If a class is sold out can I get on a waiting list?
We do not provide a waiting list If a date is sold out please check our class calendar for available tickets on another available date. However, sometimes if a class is sold out, there may be a chance we will add an additional class.
Does this class have anything to offer an experienced beekeeper?
Yes, it can but keep in mind that the class is mostly designed to introduce new-bees to beekeeping, but offers indepth instruction onTop- Bar Hives, their advantages and how they differ from other types of hives.
How much standing will we do during the class?
About one half of the class is spent listening to the instructor, while during the other half we will be standing as we view the hive.
Is the class wheelchair accessible?
Those in wheelchairs or with limited mobility should be able to attend. Please keep in mind that students need to be able to travel approximately 100 yards across a grassy field of uneven terrain. If anyone has limited mobility and has further questions, please email me at soulhoney@pwhome.com
Who is the instructor?
The instructor is the owner and operator of Soul Honey. This class offers direct contact with an instruction that is not just a successful beekeeper, but an owner/operator of a successful bee keeping business.
